"The weariness and vulnerability captured in those courtroom images betray a growing recognition that he could wind up as the thing his old man most reviled.
A convicted criminal?
No, worse. A loser."
-David Axelrod (What Donald Trump Fears the Most ,The Atlantic 4/22/24)
Poor former President stuck in a courtroom for allegedly paying off a porn star he had an affair with. I agree what Donald fears the most is being labeled or remembered as a loser. One may contend he's already there. He must feel it's so beneath him to have to appear in court like this for a a matter so seedy and a matter made perfectly for tabloids(one of which is involved in the case too). The allegation of an affair almost seems secondary these days. It's "baked into the cake" in matters of Donald Trump's character.
Many pundits or commentators have almost dismissed this case as barely worthy of the attention compared to the other cases pending against Donald., although in seems to be in contrast to wall to wall attention it's received. It's almost to the level of the O. J. Simpson trial of the 90's.
I do think that this trial has proved a few things. It is possible despite Donald's delay tactics to get him to trial for a criminal acts. They may seem trifle in comparison but he's still in court nonetheless. Something Jack Smith and Fani Willis haven't managed to do yet. I congratulate Attorney General Alvin Bragg for this accomplishment. He has proved it can be done. Secondly one may look at the case of Al Capone who was a notorious mob boss in the early part of the 1900's. For all his violent and hubris what did he finally get put to jail for? Tax evasion. Bad bookkeeping. Donald's on trial for what? Bad bookkeeping to hide an affair from voters. Could this be the modern day equivalent of Al Capone's tax evasion that sent him to jail? Only time will tell. One thing is certain, Alvin Bragg broke the ice and got Trump, a former President, into criminal court to face charges. What say you Fani Willis and Jack Smith?
